Dr. Avesh J. Thuluvath is a transplant hepatologist and physician-scientist with expertise in caring for patients with liver disease. Dr. Thuluvath specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, alcohol-associated liver disease and autoimmune liver diseases. Dr. Thuluvath’s research focuses on further elucidating the pathophysiology of frailty and sarcopenia in cirrhosis, with the ultimate goal of developing patient-centered interventions to optimize physical conditioning before liver transplantation.

He is the former medical director of Adult Liver Transplantation at The Montefiore Medical Center, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and The Tulane University Medical Center. Dr. Gaglio is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. Among several teaching awards, Dr. Gaglio was named Physician of the Year by the New York Chapter of the American Liver Foundation in 2011 and has been consistently listed as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area.
