About Empire Liver Foundation

About Us

The Empire Liver Foundation (ELF) was established in 2013 by leading liver specialists dedicated to providing clinical education on liver disease to health care providers. ELF members include more than 50 liver disease specialists who focus on issues related to hepatitis B, hepatitis C, transplantation, addiction medicine and related issues.

Since 2014, ELF in collaboration with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, has trained thousands of health care providers with a goal to increase the number of clinicians who screen, diagnose, manage, and treat hepatitis B and C. ELF clinical trainings include hospital-based grand rounds, live special topics web-based trainings, a 4-week hepatitis C training series, a 3-week hepatitis B training series, half-day preceptorships, and tele-mentoring opportunities. Course content is regularly updated based on clinical practice guidelines, changes in USPSTF recommendations or other regulatory changes. In addition, we include case studies in each training to reflect the medical issues of the patient populations served and include issues related to co-morbidities, psychosocial issues and social determinants of health. We develop content for specialized webinars based on the current needs or changing landscape.

Since 2014, ELF has conducted more than 200 live in-person sessions and webinars. Our clinical trainings are free, live, and offer accredited continuing education credits (CMEs, CNEs and CEUs). Our audience includes clinical providers (MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs, RNs, and PharmDs) and allied health professionals working in primary care settings, community health centers, substance use treatment centers, and hospitals.

Since 2017, ELF has collected data to monitor and evaluate the reach and outcomes of its training initiatives. Over the past 3 years, ELF successfully reached the intended audience of community health providers and helped them increase their understanding of hepatitis B and C care.
