David E. Bernstein, MD
David E. Bernstein, MD, AGAF, FACP, FACG is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the Hofstra North Shore Long Island Jewish School of Medicine. He is the Chief of Hepatology and Center for Liver Disease at the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
After earning his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr. Bernstein completed his internship and medical residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. He subsequently completed fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology at University of Miami-Affiliated Hospitals in Miami, Florida under the direction of Dr Eugene Schiff.
Dr. Bernstein is the immediate past Governor for the Long Island District of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is the President and Treasurer of the Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology and a former President of the New York Gastrointestinal Society. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the American Liver Foundation, a consultant to the New York State Department of Health and a member of the New York State Department of Health Office Based Surgery Advisory Board.
Dr. Bernstein has conducted extensive research on the safety and efficacy of treatments for various types of chronic liver diseases such hepatitis B, hepatitis C and on coagulation disorders in liver disease. He is the author of many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and a frequent guest lecturer both nationally and internationally. He is a reviewer for multiple national journals and has served on multiple committees for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American College of Gastroenterology.
